XpressFix: “Save the Crawford House Conway Chili Cookoff” Winner at Fish on Fire
In order to preserve and properly restore a local Orlando and Conway Community historic relic, XpressFix and other local supporters sponsored a team competing for top chili chef bragging rights in the Conway area. Chili enthusiasts and fellow local philanthropists got together for a beautiful winter day to support a great cause – The Save the Crawford House Chili Cookoff.
For those that have grown up in the Belle Isle area, or for those of you who have kids or family that have attended Pine Castle Christian Academy or Pine Castle Elementary, and many who have listened to a few of Pastor Blake Lorenz’ sermons at Pine Castle United Methodist Church are all undoubtedly familiar with the Crawford House at 5903 Randolph Avenue Belle Isle, FL 32809. For me personally, I grew up attending Pine Castle Christian Academy and knew the history of the Crawford house by the age of 10.
The Crawford House in Pine Castle is one of three left standing buildings that mark turn of the 18th century and early 19th century architecture. This home was at one time the home to Essie Crawford a well-liked teacher in the area. Over the years many children have enjoyed Pioneer Days reflecting on this period in American history while enjoying arts and crafts, great food and music, and a parade of locals throwing candy from their floats.
The Crawford House needs to be moved to a new location and the Chili Cookoff silent auction revenue and other financial contributions by competing teams will be used to properly achieve the move and preservation of the home.
On this day XpressFix came to support a good cause, but Chef Josh Rains came with much higher ambitions and a bowl of chili so good you’ll slap your mama!
On January 24th 2015 at host Fish on Fire (the best fish restaurant in Orlando, FL) our team set up our booth and let all the locals try our chili and the judges rated Josh’s concoction number 1 in the competition.
